Mr. James Ng’ang’a was confirmed as the Commissioner Petroleum on October 23, 2021. Prior to this posting, he was acting as the Secretary Petroleum. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Nairobi and Master of Science degree in Structural Geology with Geophysics from the University of Leeds, UK. He is a registered Geologist with the Geologist Registration Board (GRB) and professional member of the Geological Society of Kenya (GSK). James has worked in Government both in the Energy and Petroleum sectors for over 30 years in various capacities. During this time, he has provided professional knowledge and technical expertise on geothermal, coal, and petroleum exploration. In his current docket he is in charge of coordination of policy, legal and regulatory framework formulation for oil and gas; monitoring of upstream, midstream and downstream petroleum operations; and ensuring availability strategic reserves and security of supply of petroleum products.
